Louisa Grenville, later Countess Stanhope, by Pompeo Batoni, who was a famed prolific portrait painter of his time. Wealthy tourists in 18th C Italy would have their portraits done by Batoni as high-status souvenirs of their travels. Batoni’s name lapsed into obscurity and his work is recently gaining new recognition.
