TITLE: Daphnis & Chloe, the fable illustrated by Chagall
Considered the first romance novel, Daphnis and Chloe tells a story of young love in ancient pastoral Greece and is illustrated throughout with scenes depicted by Chagall. Large print on heavy paper with 42 full colour illustrations.by Longus
DESCRIPTION
This pastoral novel of young love was written in the 2nd century and is brought to life by Chagall's glorious illustrations, which in turn reflect the sensuousness with which the story is told. This is a fable with descriptive adult themes. Attributed to the Greek poet, Longus, the story tells of the boy, Daphnis, and the girl, Chloe, attractive young shephards tending flocks amongst the sunny hills of the Greek island of Lesbos. Their friendship turns to love and they know not what to do. Their innocence and desire makes them vulnerable to mischievous interventions before they find their way.
