SYNOPSIS
Jacqueline and Picasso
by David Douglas Duncan
Hardcover book, 1988, 240 pages, text in English
Contents include:
- – hundreds of large black and white photo illustrations of Pablo Picasso and his second wife, Jacqueline Roque Picasso, in their home in France, where they lived and where Picasso had his studio.
– Preface, pages 8-24 includes the story of circumstances which led to the author purposefully seeking the acquaintance of Picasso in order to present him with a special ring. For their first meeting, they were introduced while Picasso was in the bathtub! That commemorative photo is in the first pages.
– short text anecdotes are included throughout the book, to put photos in context.
On page 168 is a photo of the Picassos sitting on the front stairs of their home. A large painting stands behind them, the paint drying. It is a painting of Jacqueline, a gift to the author, and it also appears in colour on the dustjacket illustration. We learn Jacqueline never posed for her portraits, Picasso simply observed her very well.
